How Victoria University enabled VR for its Microsoft Datacentre Academy on time and under budget

When Victoria University in Melbourne was faced with the need to deploy a virtual reality training solution fast, it turned to FacilityVR.

The Challenge

Traditional VR training development required months of development time and significant investment in game engine expertise. Our customer needed a faster, more affordable way to deliver hands-on training to their students.

The Solution

Using FacilityVR’s AI-powered scenario builder, the training provider was able to create realistic virtual environments and training scenarios in minutes rather than months.

According to Datacentre Academy head, John Burgess, access to an existing datacentre layout template that we could simply modify to our needs using the onboard AI tools made using FacilityVR quick and easy. “Our teachers could focus their time on building scenarios that challenge students and assess their practical skills” Burgess said.

The virtual reality learning experience is ideal for providing students with a feel for the sheer scale of capital intensive workplaces and that can’t be simulated easily in a classroom setting. “Students just love the hands-on activities they can safely perform, making them job ready before even setting foot in the workplace.”

The Results

  • Project Delivery on time and under budget.
  • Immediate deployment to VR headsets without having to wait for App Store approval.
  • Delivery-ready FacilityVR offered a turnkey solution that was accessible to teachers without needing VR coding or game design skills.
